About 121 participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso attended the five-week training programme.

YALI is a signature effort launched by the President of U. S.A., Barrack Obama, in 2010 to invest in the next generation of African leaders by supporting young African leaders to spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, enhance peace and security, and shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and public management across Africa.

The YALI Cohort IV was held at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from 31st July to 5th September. Participants were were given opportunity to organize programs and events that are linked with the YALI project.

Chris Arthur, who is a former president of Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of KNUST, on August 25, successfully organized a debate among the five main political parties in Ghana at a time Ghana is going to the polls in December and electioneering campaign heating up.

The parties were governing National Democratic Congress and the largest opposition party, New Patriotic Party. The rest are Progressive People’s Party, Convention People’s Party and People’s National Convention. The programme that received huge media attention across the country was aired live on 3FM 92.7.

Based on the success of his programme, Chris was nominated along with Chief Emmanuel N. B Flomo from Liberia and Simon Ndibnuh from Cameroon for the Best Public Leadership Fellow.

After an online voting by all the participants from the nine West African countries, Chris Arthur, who is the President of Students Network for Nana Addo (STUNNAD), emerged the winner.

An awards night was held on 1st September 2016 to honor participants who excelled in their respective tracks of study during the five-week in-house training.

Chris Arthur, who is an active member of the opposition New Patriotic Party was instrumental in the suspension of the party’s elected General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong last year.
