Traitorous Pardon Call

Now we know members of the Executive- and they are many- who encouraged the Montie 3 to tread the path of insults to undermine the Judiciary.

When members of one of the arms of government hide behind the scenes and pay a bunch of deviants to threaten judges with death and push the country to the brink of civil strife, there is the need for all to take a second look at the health of the nation.

Our nation cannot be said to be doing well, especially its institutions when such anomalies are encouraged and provided with all the impetus they need to prosper by government appointees.

We are unable to dismiss the hypothesis by some observers that the three persons, now doing time in prison, have always had the assurance of support from their godfathers who are being identified as they troop to append their signatures to the pardon roll call.

Salifu Maase aka Mugabe told his listeners that he left his wife and kids in the UK to come and work for President John Mahama. If this does not presuppose an assignment for which he is being taken care of by powerful persons in government what else does?

Now that the support has not been enough to stop them from going to jail, the best members of the Executive can do for them is to organize such a divisive pardon call, as it is being chorused in pro-NDC circles.

Even the Education Minister, who appended her signature to the pardon call, does not find anything untoward with somebody saying nasty and unprintable things about the Chief Justice.

And Oye Lithur too. What a country! Full of contradictions.

What we are unable to tell is the thinking which went into taking the decision to go and sign the pardon call when some of the signatories are cabinet ministers, whose decisions and actions must reflect that of the President.

Are their actions being supported by the President? The President is either supporting them subtly or confused as to what to do under the fiery circumstances.

He certainly is scared of making any faux pas at this critical moment when he should not be identified as one leading the charge against the Judiciary.

They must be encouraged to do what they are doing as did the Montie 3.

It is difficult or even impossible to isolate the President from the roll call of pardon callers because being his appointees, they dare not engage in a political campaign of this magnitude without his endorsement.

He could be hiding in the wings observing developments as the immoral calls mount.

Would the President be contemplating capitulating, having maintained his position in the eyes of the public to date?

Indeed, the Montie debacle is an ill wind which continues to worsen the state of the country’s political health. As a divisive debacle, it has enhanced the polarization of the country and taken it to a new level.
