The Gambian President, Mr Adama Barrow on Friday called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House as part of a day’s working visit to the country.

The main purpose of the visit was to thank President Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana for the support they provided towards the restoration of democracy and order in The Gambia.

In the early days of his administration, President Akufo-Addo took a decision to contribute 200 Ghanaian troops to an ECOWAS Force that was formed to help restore order in The Gambia when the former President of that country, Mr Yahya Jammeh, refused to relinquish power after losing the general election to Mr Barrow.

The President said the situation in The Gambia also offered the opportunity for ECOWAS to act as a unit with a collective purpose and objective.

Flag gaffe

During the visit, the flag of Ghana hoisted at the conference room of the seat of government, the Flagstaff House, was turned upside down.

The flag was hoisted upside down, with the colours in the order green, gold, and red, rather than the official red, gold, green.

The blunder has generated discussion with former Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Hanna Tetteh suggesting on Twitter that “Protocol must have been distracted. I hope next time our flag is turned the right way up.”

Others like Kwame Gyan also suggested this was not the first time such a mistake had been done and that during Hanna Tetteh’s tenure as Foreign Minister, a similar gaffe happened.
