This comes after threats from some invigilators in the Agortime-Ziope district of the Volta Region that they would boycott the Basic Education Certificate Examination over GES’ indebtedness to them.

According to the invigilators, their allowances have been in arrears for several months.

But the Ghana Education Service (GES),  is urging them to remain calm as arrangements have been made to pay them the arrears.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey, told Citi News that all arrears including payment for their service during the upcoming BECE will be paid.

“GES is not denying the fact that we owe our invigilators for some time now. Provisions have been made for that. On Saturday, management met and they’ve taken a decision that money will enter their account and they will be smiling. We are ready to make sure that all the monies we owe them are paid, including the current one so there is no need to be afraid that we owe them for one or two years,” he said.

Final year students of the various Junior High Schools in the country are set to sit for the BECE on Monday.

Meanwhile, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), has said it has put in place several measures to ensure that questions for this year’s exams do not leak.

It has also cautioned candidates to desist from any form of malpractice.
