The Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Kufuor demeaning the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

According to him ex-President Kufour during his reign supervised the terrible handling of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra which is a tourist attraction.

Kufuor he said was meant to make up for his mistreatment of the sepulcher when Nkrumah’s wife Fathia die but didn’t.

Instead, he “laid her coffin in the same dugout where Nkrumah had been buried and he feigned to have been mourning her and we all fell for it and joined in the mourning without handkerchiefs wiping our tears”

Rawlings slams Kufuor while he also mentions past leaders, late Atta Mills, John Mahama as personalities who have failed in their duty of protecting the legacy of the founding father.

He, however, gave special mention and attention to his immediate successor, John Kufuor whom he said demeaned the legacy of Ghana’s first Prime Minister by desecrating his grave. These people he said, claim to be Nkrumahists but never showed it in their actions.

Fathia died on 31 May 2007 at Badrawy Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, due to a stroke after a period of illness.

Fathia Nkrumah’s bodily remains were flown to Ghana for a funeral at the State House in June 2007 following her “lifelong request”, she was buried next to her husband.

A state burial service was held at the forecourt of Parliament building and attended by political bigwigs in the country including President John Agyekum Kufuor and the wife, Theresa, Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and his wife, Rahmatu, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi-Hughes and Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood.
