Anti-corruption activist, Vitus Azeem, is calling for the prosecution of controversial highlife musician, Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A-Plus for falsely accusing two government officials of corruption. Mr. Azeem’s calls come after the Criminal Investigation Department of police (CID), declared A-Plus corruption claims unfounded.

A-plus who is known for mostly using his music career to dish out contentious social and political criticisms had claimed that the officials in question indulged in corrupt practices. But a statement from the CID says “the allegation of corruption was found to be baseless, unsubstantiated and without credibility.”

A-Plus corruption claims raised a lot of dusts among stakeholders and the general public, drawing the attention of the government and security agencies. But when grilled by the CID, the singer was unable to substantiate his claims; a development that has left many greatly disturbed.

One of such persons is Vitus Azeem who believes such lousy attitude should not go unpunished. Speaking with Citi FM’s Richard Sky on Eyewitness News on Monday, Mr. Azeem said he deems it appropriate for actions to be taken against A-Plus.

“I think we cannot leave it there because we should not allow people to make unsubstantiated claims against individuals and then go free. There should be some action taken.”

The anti-corruption campaigner suggested that the police sees to the prosecution of Kwame Obeng since he failed to provide proofs for his corruption allegations.

A-Plus in August, accused President Akufo-Addo’s two Deputy Chiefs of Staff, Francis Asenso-Boakye and Abu Jinapor of being corrupt.

The outspoken musician took to Facebook to rain insults on the two whom he said were scheming to swindle the government. But the display turned sour when it got public attention and attracted criticisms against the musician.

Following the backlash, A-Plus apologized for choosing the wrong platform in making corruption allegations against the two government appointees. He also acknowledged that his choice of words against the duo were inappropriate.

The musician also debunked the widely held understanding that he was accusing Boakye and Jinapor taking bribes, but still maintained his stand that the duo are corrupt; a development that prompted President Nana Addo to order a CID investigation into the matter.
