Police Service Will Discharge Its Duties With Impartiality and Rule of Law – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has pledged to transform the police service to be more accountable and able to address the concerns and needs of the public.

He stressed his plan to make the Police more responsive to concerns raised by the public about their conduct.

He gave the assurance that the Police during his tenure will be fair in the discharge of their duties and abide by all laws that guide the conduct of the service to build a mutual relationship between the police and the society.

This he indicated was his priority to make the police a trustworthy friend to the public as we seek to build a peaceful society.

According to him, accountability at all levels of their operations and promised to hold personnel of the Service to the highest standards of integrity.

“I want to assure the people of Ghana that under my leadership the Ghana Police Service will do everything within its power to respond to your concerns about the conduct of the police. We will ensure that there is accountability in all levels of the service and our police officers will be held to the highest standard of integrity”

“As we pursue our goal to make Ghana a safer society we will discharge our duties with absolute impartiality and with firm commitment to the rule of law. This will assure every Ghanaian of their right to equal treatment before the law and ensure that no citizen is seen above the law”

He also expressed his desire to improve the Police Service to a standard where they will be abreast of modern technologies and changing trends in the discharge of their duties.

He noted that, this has motivated him to embark on some structural and strategic transformation that will put the Service in a better position to deliver on their mandate in these times when the trends are changing.

“As our environment changes, technological advancements require that we develop operational skills that will enable to deal with new challenges. It requires that we will be agile and rapidly respond to any issue that will arise and require our attention”

“I have embarked on a structural and transformational agenda that will change the Police Service for good, improving both operations and welfare of the officers and their families”

The IGP made these remarks in his speech during his induction church service at the Ghana Police Church in Accra on Sunday.

Asante-Apeatu is the 24th IGP indigenous Head of the Ghana Police Service and was appointed by President Akufo-Addo on January 25th 2017.
