Minister for the Interior,  Ambrose Dery, has been summoned to appear before Parliament to brief MPs on circumstances leading to the death of two suspected armed robbers in Kumasi.

Mr.  Dery is expected to be in the House anytime between 22nd  and 27th November, 2017.

This follows a directive by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu who presided over Friday’s sitting in Parliament.

The directive by the First Deputy Speaker was spurred by a request by the Member of Parliament for Asawase and Minority Chief Whip,  Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka who expressed worry over developments leading to the death of the two suspects, he claimed were from his constituency.

The two suspected armed robbers,  according to Muntaka,  were shot dead by the police who had accompanied them to an unidentified location in search of some hidden weapons.

In the view of the Asewase lawmaker,  the two were picked up by the police after suspecting them to be members of an armed robbery syndicate that have been terrorising residents there.

They had led the police to three different locations in search of hidden weapons prior to their death.

After unsuccessful attempts in their quest to locate the hidden weapons,  the suspects,  according to the MP,  took the police to a fourth location for the same purpose.

According to Muntaka,  preliminary briefings from the Interior Minister suggested that the robbers upon reaching the fourth location attempted to escape and in the process, they were shot by the police.

This incident,  he noted, demands thorough investigations since the circumstances leading to the death of the suspected armed robbers are not too clear.

Worried about the aftermath of the incident,  Muntaka pleaded with his constituents, especially,  residents of Aboabo not to take the law into their own hands and cause chaos in the community, but rather corporate with police’s investigations.

The law maker has subsequently promised to be part of any demonstration that the youth of the area would embark on, but cautioned them not to take the law into their own hands.
