The Member of Parliament for the Efutu Constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was benefiting from the continuous fuel contamination at the Bulk Oil Storage Transport Company Limited (BOST).

This he said was why for the past eight years, fuel continuously got contaminated yet nothing was done about it.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator said “if the government [NDC government] had deemed it fit to investigate even one incident, the nation would have been saved”.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin made the accusations on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday while contributing to a discussion on the alleged sale of contaminated fuel by the BOST to an ‘unregistered company’.

He said “because for eight years, these things happened continuously but you [NDC government] did not do anything about it and it tells you that something has happened”.

He added that “something has happened today and we are turning blind eyes on it…no…we are not saying that but [former MD, Awuah Darko] was not interested in investigating the issue but [current MD, Alfred Obeng] was interested in finding out the solutions to the continues contamination of fuel at BOST so the minority should deal and criticize the issue and stop the myopic approach in managing the matter on the MD”.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin explained that “[fuel contamination] shouldn’t be happening if you have experts in the petro-chemical industry” but the then government did not put in place the right measures to avert such occurrence.

“[NDC] should be ashamed that throughout their eight years it was happening without finding antidote to it”, the Efutu MP said.

The Deputy Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament, Mutawakilu Adam, promised the Minority in Parliament will not relent in their efforts to establish the truth in the matter.

“We will continue to pursue it to ensure that the right thing is done” he said.

He said “there is no transaction in which we cannot trace and if they [BOST] cannot trace the transaction, then I wonder whether they are doing their job”.

The Damango Constituency MP said “the NPP had the opportunity to investigate in the last six months and prosecute but they sit down until minority raised it and I m not surprise the corrupt act is high in this government for the last six months. They lack defense in respect to the serious allegations that we have raised”.
