It seemed like it was a long-awaited opportunity which Ghana’s president abruptly jumped at when he started to dwell on stereotyped parasitism between Africa and the Western world. Ghana’s President made a bold statement concerning Africa’s continuous reliance on European countries for support.
Right in the presence of President Macron, Akufo-Addo insisted that Africa “can no longer continue to make policies for ourselves, our regions and our continents on the basis of whatever the Western world or France or the European Union can give us”
Speaking further Nana Addo said it is not right for a country like Ghana – 60 years after independence – to still have its health and education budgets being financed on the basis of the generosity of European tax-payers.

The country and Africa as a whole needs to charter a path which is about how we can develop our nations ourselves, Nana Addo said.
His comments visibly made the France President uncomfortable, with his demeanor clearly depicting a man sitting on tenterhooks. The video has since gone viral, has become a hot topic for debate on various social media platforms.
The President noted that Ghana, under his leadership, has decided to turn her back on the old economy, which is dependent on the production and export of raw materials.
But generally, it was a successful meeting, as the two presidents assured of a better and improved relationship between the two countries.
Moreso, with the French language set to become one of the world’s most commonly spoken languages, by 2050, President Akufo-Addo noted that Ghanaians, have been intimately linked with the francophone world.
This strategic association he said, should serve as a big boost to addressing some of our mutual concerns.
