The launch took place in the regional capital, Tamale, where officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service patrolled all major streets within the metropolis.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, who is also the Chairman of the REGSEC, indicated that the security agencies are ready to ensure peace prevails in the metropolis.

“The security agencies are well prepared to deal with any conflict mongers in equal measures should they attempt to disrupt the relative peace the region is enjoying.”

He also revealed that the cases of armed robbery on highways, shops, and homes have necessitated a crucial measure such as the ‘Operation Calm Life’, which will ensure lives and property are protected.

While declaring a no-more armed robbery and conflict in the region, Mr Salifu Saeed urged chiefs to work towards achieving total peace in their jurisdiction as the continuous conflicts in parts of the region retard development.

“Conflict situations see us overstretching our officers, and anytime they’re deployed to these areas, funds allocated for developmental projects are diverted into taking care of the officers, thus I am urging you all traditional leaders to foster peace and co-existence,” he said.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACOP Patrick Sarpong, in his address, charged the officers to commit to protecting, “the citizenry in all aspects”.

He also bemoaned the growing spate of insecurity in Tamale.
