Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Ras Mubarak raised the matter on the floor of Parliament on Friday.

“Last month, Members of Parliament received their salaries quite late; some received their salaries as late as the 10th of the next month,” Ras Mubarak said.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP further lamented that they had not been paid their February salaries although the month has ended.

“We are currently in a new month and Members of Parliament have still not received salaries. I will like to find out from the leader if this will be the norm and whether or not Members of Parliament will be receiving their salaries very soon.”

Asuogyaman MP Thomas Nyarko Ampem also expressed his frustration over the delays.

“There is a particular trend that has started over the last couple of months that is getting most of us worried,” he lamented. “The trend is that when the month ends, we receive the salary after the 10th day of the next month.”

The Asuogyaman MP said their finances appear to be in tatters as a result of the delay since they had plans for every month’s salary.

“We are worried, every member is complaining, and this is not about those of us on the left. Everybody is complaining, except that some of them are not able to voice it out. It is a very serious thing that is happening to us. You plan your finances and you don’t know what to do again.”

According to Mr. Nyarko Ampem, their constituents depend on them for financial assistance and any further delay in the release of the salaries hinders delivery to the constituents.

“We are going into our constituencies for 6th March, a lot of expenditure ahead of us and nothing showing in our bank accounts.”
