The search for a Ghanaian UNICEF diplomat who got missing in South Africa intensifies as president Akufo-Addo engages the president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma on progress made in finding her.
Charlotte Nana Yaa Nikoi is feared to have mysteriously gone missing while touring the Table Mountain in Cape Town on the human rights day of March.
Foreign affairs minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway tells Citi FM that; “the senior minister and the deputy minister of foreign affairs were in South Africa and they sought audience with the South African President, Jacob Zuma, and he has taken the matter up”.
According to her, the presidency “will soon be speaking to the president of South Africa”.
The missing Ghanaian is documented to have arrived in the South African capital of CAPE Town on March 17 to celebrate her wedding anniversary with family and friends.
“We are watching carefully and keeping an eye on what is happening. A human being cannot disappear just like that. Something happened and we need to get to the bottom of this,” the Shirley Ayorkor Botchway lamented.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the South African president, Bongani Nggulunga is assuring Ghana of measures being put in place to find the missing Ghanaian citizen.
“We appeal to anyone with information to assist the police to locate Ms Nikoi so that she can be reunited with her family. The South African Police and other departments such as Social Development will continue to provide as much support as possible during this difficult time,” he pleaded.

The mysterious situation of Nikoi follows South Africa’s recent xenophobic attacks against the African immigrants especially Ghanaians who some irate South Africans claim are taking away their jobs.
