Let CHRAJ Investigate, We’re Unshaken – Government

The government says it is unfazed by the petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) to investigate it for a possible conflict of Interest situation in the issuance of the $2.25 billion bond.

Contrary to claims that it did not follow due process in the issuance of such bond, the government insists the bond was issued in tandem with laid down procedures.

The Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Yaw Brogya Genfi yesterday petitioned CHRAJ to look into the issue alleging that there exists a relationship between majority purchaser of the bond-Franklin Templeton and Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

Brogya Genfi argues that such a relationship amounts to conflict of interest situation urging the commission to investigate the matter.

But a Deputy Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM said the NDC Youth Organizer is merely on a wild goose chase.

According to him, Mr. Genfi is exercising a right that he’s entitled to but such pursuits will come to nought because the right thing has been done in every step of the way.

“As far as we are concerned, every appropriate rule has been followed. The right thing has been done at all steps and we are moving forward to deal with the other challenges we have inherited as a government, and also to fulfill the campaign promises we made to the people of Ghana.

“He has gone to CHRAJ asking it to answer. CHRAJ will do its work and answer, we will not turn the tables and seek to litigate or seek to provide those answers out here. He has gone to the appropriate forum so let the appropriate forum do its work.”
