News of her death has been confirmed by the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) who revealed that she passed away while on admission at the Effiduase Government Hospital in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region.

Madam Badu’s death comes at the heels of Paapa Yankson’s death, another iconic Ghanaian Highlife musician who died in July and was laid to rest last weekend.

Late Awurama Badu is best known for her hit songs which include ‘Medofo adaada me’, ‘Komkom’, ‘Obaatan Refre Ne Mma’ and ‘Emelia’.

She reportedly made her last public appearance at the 2nd Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Music Right Organization held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in August this year.

It could be recalled that Awurama was honoured at ‘A Night With Female Legends’, an event that promotes African cultural renaissance and restoration, organised in 2016 by Value for Life, a non-governmental organisation founded by the then Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Ablah Gomashie.

She alongside other female legendary musicians including Asabea Kropa, Grace Omaboe, Grace Nortey, Efua Dorkeno, Naa Adjaley, Wilhelmina Mensah, Naa Amanua of Wulomei, were recognised for their significant contributions to the growth of music in Ghana.

Back in 2013, Awurama Badu performed at Citi FM’s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) Concert.

Close sources revealed that the legendary musician has been ill for sometime. She died at the age of 72. May her soul rest in peace.
