Kofi Adams Dismisses Metro Mass Debt Claims; Says NDC Rather Deserves Balance

The National Organizer of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has discounted media reports that state transporter Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) is on the heels of the NDC over buses the party rented whilst in government.

The party is alleged to have failed to pay for the services the company rendered it.

But Mr. Adams says (in Twi) “we don’t owe Metro Mass that amount of money and I think they [MMT] must even balance us because we have paid them the amount we owe”.

Media reports on Thursday suggested MMT had issued a pro forma invoice to the NDC after it had lost the general elections on December 7, revealing the then governing party owed the state  transport company a total of GH¢1,921, 896.99.

The pro forma invoice was sent to the party’s headquarters for the attention of the NDC National Organizer, Kofi Adams, who doubled as the Campaign Coordinator of John Dramani Mahama’s 2016 campaign team – which failed to achieve the goal of a second term bid for the former president.

The story alleged that the NDC had hired a total of 506 buses for its luxurious 2016 electioneering campaign.

Sources say the party only paid GH¢410,000 out of the GH¢1, 921,896.99 debt, despite a supposedly generous discount offered to the party.

The reports further said the MMT had even given the NDC a 20% discount for using the buses between November 30 and December 9, 2016 since the original amount for using the 506 buses was GH¢2, 402,371.24.

Reacting to the issue in an interview with Onua 95.1 FM, Mr Adams said “as far as we are concerned, we don’t owe Metro Mass that amount of money because they have not communicated to us”.

He added: “I think they must even balance us because we have paid them and we have nothing to do with them”.
