Jewel Ackah Is Dead

Legendary Ghanaian composer and high-life musician, Jewel Ackah, who has been battling stroke and other ailments, has died.

He died at his Tema Community 11 home Friday at about 7:00pm, his son, Francis Ogoo confirmed to 3news.com.

Jewel Ackah has for the last decade been battling stroke and other sicknesses which caused his face and body to bloat.

In 2016, he told Accra-based Onua FM that “I have been battling with stroke, leg pain and I mean so many things. I just give thanks to the Almighty God for even bringing me this far.

“At first, I couldn’t walk nor speak. For now, I am able to walk a little but not all that good as compared to the first,” he said.

But his condition later deteriorated again; a situation that caused family members to seek his discharge from the 37 Military Hospital in Accra two weeks ago.

Until his discharge, the legend whose decades of music covered highlife and gospel, was unable to speak or walk, 3news.com gathered from close family sources.

“He was moved from the hospital last two weeks because he could not talk and his condition was not getting any better” TV3’s entertainment reporter Owusu Worae who spoke to a family source told 3news.com

Jewel Ackah was noted for composing the popular National Democratic Congress anthem, ‘Arise’.

Prior to his demise, he accused the party of neglect, claiming he had not received support from them after all the years of sacrifices.

“NDC does not give money; they neglected me even in power. After that composition, I became a typical NDC. I did the song for free, and if I were supposed to charge for it will be over billions of cedis,” he told Adom FM last year.
