Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Kpemka says government will only re-arrest and prosecute the eight members of the Delta Force who were released if it gets fresh and sufficient evidence.

This follow calls by the minority, PPP, Ghana Bar Association and others that the Attorney General should re-arrest the eight 8 and prosecute them.

The Delta Force 8, who were accused of invading a court and freeing 13 of their colleagues who were standing trial, were released after the state attorneys in Kumasi handling their case had stated that there was no evidence to prosecute them.

The minority NDC in Parliament led by Haruna Iddrisu after the news broke about the freedom granted to the Delta Force eight, hurriedly organized a press conference where they expressed their dissatisfaction about the ruling, describing the attorney general’s advice as a travesty of justice.

They therefore called for the re-arrest of the suspects and urged the President of the Republic to intervene in the matter.

The Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, through a statement issued by the Information Ministry, quickly indicated that the A-G’s office disagreed with the court decision to discharge the suspects.

But reacting to the issue on Joy News’ Newsfile Programme Saturday, Mr. Kpemka explained that his office cannot re-arrest the 8 without new evidence.

“If any new evidence comes up, we would call the case and re-arrest the men but since there is no evidence, then there is no use in keeping them” he said.

But National Democratic Congress MP for South Dayi, Rockson Dafeamekpor disagrees.

He believes that the state should rather invite the judge and other court officials who were present in court when the incident happened to testify.

Meanwhile, Vice President of Imani Ghana Kofi Bentil backed the NDC MP insisting the police failed to do a good job.
