Staff members of Today newspaper, Eezy FM, Spyder Lee Entertainment and Digicut – all entities of Groupe Nduom (GN) at Avenor, Accra, yesterday underwent a fire training exercise as part of a routine programme being organised by GN for its workers across the country.
The training exercise which lasted for over two hours consisted of theory and practical rudiments of fighting fire.
Assistant Divisional Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), J. K. Owusu, stressed the need for corporate institutions to periodically organise such trainings to their staff.
“There is the need to train residents and staff members of every institution on how to prevent fire outbreaks so that if there is a fire outbreak, something can be done before the fire gets out of hand,” he said.
This, he said, would not only lighten the burden on the GNFS, but “further help all of us so that lives and properties could easily be saved if everyone knows how to combat fire.”
He further reiterated that every office must have at least two fire extinguishers as well as an emergency exit.
Some staff members shared their experience and expressed gratitude to the management of GN.
A reporter at Today, Elizabeth Amarfio, was excited and wished more of such trainings are given them always.
“This is a very informative exercise and I’m excited to be part of it,” she said.
