GHC10 Bribe Lands Invigilators In Trouble

Some invigilators in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been arrested after they were alleged to have demanded GH¢10 from each student in order to allow them copy.

A proprietor of one the institutions on Accra-based Joy Fm said “ His greatest worry is the fact that we are now training kids who we expect to take good behaviour; who we expect to lead this society and now we are trying to corrupt their minds,” the disturbed school proprietor stated.

The latest incident also come in the wake of concerns from owners of some schools that unscrupulous examiners are making demands from then under the guise allowing their students some space to cheat.

On Tuesday June 6, 2017, two invigilators a male and a female in Bimbilla in the Northern Region were arrested after they tried to help some of the candidates at an examination centre

External supervisors spotted the female suspect trying to feed a candidate with answers with a mobile phone and therefore alerted the security agencies. . The other invigilator, a teacher at one of the Junior High Schools in the area, was also caught smuggling foreign materials into the exam hall.

The two invigilators who were taken to the Bimbilla Police Station for questioning as part of investigations, have since been released on bail but barred from playing supervisory role in the ongoing exercise involving a total of 468,053 candidates are taking part in 1,702 examination centres across the nation.

This represents an increase of 7,040 candidates over last year’s number of 461,013.

The examination, which ends on Friday 9 June, is being conducted amidst tight security to prevent examination malpractices.
