Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama of the 5th Infantry Battalion was among others deployed to combat illegal mining activities in the Denkyria-Obuasi forest reserve when he got lynched on Monday, May 29 by residents who mistook him for an armed robber when they allegedly saw a weapon on him.

Some Ghanaians shared their sentiments with www.ghanaweb.com claiming the news came as a shock to them and demand justice to be served.

They are yearning for the arrest of the individuals involved in the death of the soldier and urging security personnel to tackle the issue seriously by leaving no stone unturned.

Also, some are astonished as to how some political parties want to politicise the death of the military officer. According to them, this is a national issue that needs to be addressed holistically and shouldn’t be a platform for politicians to use for their propaganda objective.

The National Democratic Party on Tuesday, May 31 blamed President Akufo-Addo for the murder of Captain Mahama. According to them, since the ruling government assumed office in January, there has been a series of chaotic events which the President has failed to adequately address.

Describing the events as “unacceptable”, the NDC threatened to stage a civil protest over the President’s inability to protect Ghanaians.

A statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said; “If it is the case that President Akufo-Addo has come to the realisation that he is unable to manage the affairs of State, he should do the honourable thing and resign so we get a more Competent Leader to lead Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana.”

They also advised Ghanaians to desist from taking the law into their own hands and rather report or send any alleged criminal to the authorities to take action on them.
