Many are of the view that the Attorney General’s decision to set the alleged murderers free was inapt and that it should be reviewed.

The two suspects linked to the murder of J. B. Danquah-Adu on Tuesday were discharged by the Accra High Court, this follows the filing of a Nolle prosequi by the Attorney General.

The Senior State Attorney, Ms Sefakor Batsa who made the announcement, did not give any reason for the decision to drop the charges against the two, Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bosso.

However, She stated that the decision was based on section 54 of the criminal and other offences Act, 1960 (Act 30).

Background

Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at his Shiashie residence in Accra.

The late JB Danquah Adu was a Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region.

He won the Abuakwa North seat in the 2012 elections after defeating the National Democratic Congress’ Victor Smith.

He is the grandson of the late J.B Danquah, a Ghanaian statesman, pan-Africanist, scholar and historian, who played a significant role in pre- and post-colonial Ghana.

Two days after his murder, the then Accra Regional Police Command, led by COP George A. Dampare, arrested a prime suspect, Daniel Asiedu, who allegedly confessed to committing the crime.

A second suspect, Vincent Bosso, was later arrested as having conspired with Aseidu to commit the crime.
