Sounds of jubilation have engulfed the streets of Harare and the entire Zimbabwe as the people cheer and chant in relief and anticipation of a new leader.

Mugabe initially refused to cede power despite a military takeover last week, prompting the nation’s parliament to initiate an impeachment hearing against him on Tuesday.

But before a decision could be reached, the now ex-president tendered in his resignation to the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda. The announcement was made by the Speaker in the presence of other parliamentarians.

The loud chants and jubilations seem to have tilted the attention of many to the main issue which is the political procedures that ought to follow, as well as widespread reactions from different stakeholders.

Here are some key issues on the matter.

Mugabe’s fall -What’s Next for Former Zimbabwean President?

Mugabe’s stay n Zimbabwe, as well as his life after resignation, has raised a lot of arguments from different stakeholders. There is the uncertainty about where Mugabe will stay after his resignation.

Key stakeholders who have interacted with the media have said that Mugabe will be safe in Zimbabwe if he is bold enough to stay.

According to Nick Managwana, head of Zanu PF in London, who spoke to The Telegraph, Mr. Mugabe would be welcome to remain, as “Zimbabweans are not a vengeful people”.

However, it is important to note that staying in Zimbabwe will make the ex-president open to criminal charges, ridicules, as well as the loud chants of relief from the people.

This leaves the option of a voluntary exile or a stay without the lowest sound of post-resignation toutings from the ex-president.

The question of whether Mugabe will face criminal charges has also popped up on various media platforms. The answer to this can only be that such move can either be a political or legal decision.

However, it remains undecided as the jubilating country may wish to let bygones be bygones. After all, the positive outcome of Mugabe’s resignation purely outweighs any possible reason for a probe. However, this still is just our take on the matter.

What Politicians Think About Mugabe’s Resignation

Robert Mugabe is no doubt the father of the revolution to others. He is a fighter and an African hero. However, there are reservations pertaining to how he ended his almost four decades reign. President of African Union (AU) has described Mugabe’s fall as something shameful.

According to him, It is a shame that he is leaving through the back door and that he is “forsaken by the parliament,” Reacting to the military takeover a week ago, Conde said it was more or less a coup even though the military insisted it was not.

In all, other leaders have all hailed Mugabe for his bravery, although none of the appraisals came without a pinch of blames.
