Recall that 21-year-old Solomon Nyantakyi gruesomely murdered his mother, 45-year-old Nfum Patience and younger sister, 11-year-old Magdalene, back in July at their family home, a sixth floor apartment in Via San Leonardo, a multi-ethnic neighborhood in the outskirts of Parma; an incident that made buzzing media headlines across the globe.

Solomon fled their home after committing the grisly act without anyone noticing, leaving his the remains of his mother and sister in pools of blood. His elder brother, 25-year-old Raymond Nyantakyi only returned home from work in the evening to meet the bodies, with blood splashed everywhere. Their father was reportedly away on a work trip in London at the time of the incident.

Solomon was subsequently arrested in Milan as he attempted to flee the town by train. He also confessed to the act which he committed for unclear reasons following his arrest.

However, despite being convicted and imprisoned, Solomon has been released following medical examination conducted by psychologist Dr. Roberto Ariatti who declared him mentally unstable. The former Parma Youth player is now expected to go through rehabilitation to restore him to normalcy before he is reinstated into the society. He has however, been declared socially dangerous.

Solomon Nyantakyi’s former youth team manager at the Parma, Cristiano Lucarelli, attested to his questionable mental well being following th murder incident. According to Coach Lucarelli, Solomon’s behaviour in the Parma youth team glaringly suggested that he had problems, “but he never, and I mean never raised his voice, argued with anyone or reacted out of turn”.

The Parma coach also stated that he knew that Solomon suffered from depression and tried getting him to train with his team Cuoiopelli in Lega Pro, 125 miles from Parma, but he only stayed for 15 days and then ran away.

Cristiano Lucarelli who was stunned by the murder further revealed that the 21-year-old once came to him and complained that he missed his family, his friends and his home, but he thought it was just nostalgia.

In addition, former Parma boss Roberto Donadoni also described Solomon as “calm” and “taciturn”.

Nyantakyi made 44 appearances for Parma’s Primavera side and was a very promising prospect in the Parma youth academy before he was released when the club went bankrupt in 2015.

He joined Serie D side Imolese last summer after a spell with Tuttocuio’s youth side, but he was let go after just one season for reportedly falling in “with a bad crowd”. According to the club, he was inconsistent and never committed.

“Executives and I left him out after I had played some twenty games, I knew he was visiting strange people near the station, who was going to sell fake goods, in short, a guy who was not simple,” Hernan Crespo, Vice president of Imolese said of him.
