Ambassadors and High Commissioners who served during the tenure of President John Dramani Mahama have paid a courtesy call on him to thank him for their appointments and opportunity to serve the country abroad.

Spokesperson for the former envoys, Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley, praised Mr Mahama for his dedicated service to Ghana, noting that he served with honour and distinction.

The envoys indicated that they were proud of their service, having significantly enhanced Ghana’s image.

“Our presence in those countries significantly improved Ghana’s international relations and image,” Ambassador Yalley stated.

Former President Mahama welcomed the envoys back home, thanked them for their contributions to the development of the country, and encouraged them to continue in whatever way they can towards the growth of the country.

Touching on his defeat in the 2016 presidential elections, Mr Mahama said: “We have to come to terms with the loss and it is not how many times you fall but how early you get up to run. This is not the time for blame,” urging them to remain united.

Speaking about the emerging leadership issues in the NDC, Mr Mahama said: “This is not a priority now since the dynamics of the times will allow the leadership to emerge.”

The envoys were recalled in compliance with the Presidential Transition Act, which places non-career diplomats in the category of public servants whose tenure ends with the coming into office of a new government.

Present at the meeting were Mr Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff, and Ms Hanna Tetteh, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
