Montie FM, a radio station sympathetic to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was shut down by the National Communications Authority over unpaid license fee.

The NCA is said to have issued a letter to Montie FM dated September 27, 2017 informing the management of the revocation of the license.

The NCA is yet to officially comment on the development. Radio Gold, a sister radio station of Montie FM is also greatly indebted to the NCA and risk also being closed down in a month’s time if it refuses to pay up the debt.

Montie FM is an Accra based radio station owned by Network Broadcasting Limited. Transmitting on 100.1 MHZ.

The radio station became popular in the build-up to the 2016 elections when some panelists and the host of the Pampaso political talk programme, who had appeared on a political show were jailed by the Supreme Court for threatening judges with death.

The Montie trio made up of two radio panelists; Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, and show host; Salifu Maase were sentenced to four months in prison after they threatened on radio to kill Judges of the Supreme Court.

Agitations by NDC loyalists for the release of the trio had led to the emergence of a petition asking the then President Mahama to invoke his powers of pardon under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution.

Former President Mahama later heeded to the petition and granted bail to the Montie trio – a move he made just before the start of the 2016 elections.
