Grave Looting has become a terror for residents of Droboso and its environs in the Brong Ahafo Region. According to reports, some unscrupulous individuals now engage in stealing of human parts from decomposed bodies in graves scattered all over some cemeteries in the area.

The most recent incident reportedly took place at the Methodist Church Cemetery where some parts of the bodies went missing. With rituals and diabolism written all over the Droboso cemetery raid, residents have now developed more cause to worry -regarding their safety.

This untold panic has caused the youth to issue death threats to the culprits who might want to continue with the crime. The youth in the area have threatened to deal with anybody they suspect to be behind the act. Moreso, the residents have called on authorities and the traditional council to step up security to ensure that the practice was stopped and residents were safe.

The Unit Committee Chairman, Mmerantehene Osei Kofi, who confirmed the incident to Citi News, confirmed the recent grave looting which took place at the Methodist cemetery. There are seven cemeteries in the area. One each for Muslims, Catholics, Methodists, Traditionalists and the Droboso, Wenchi and Benkro Royal burial sites.

The culprits he said, broke five graves at the Methodist cemetery and made away with body parts. The identity of the culprits have not been known but the Mmerantehene together with the committee hopes to find out. The Unit Committee also plans to officially report the incident to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Police for investigations to commence.

The committee hopes to curb this menace before it escalates to a life-threatening situation. The issue if not decisively dealt with, will create insecurity in the area, and negatively affect the socio-economic and psychological well-being of residents, the Unit Committee chairman said.

Grave Looting is the act of uncovering a tomb or crypt to steal artifacts or personal effects. The motive for engaging in this act varies from person to person. This is because while some do so for the purpose of selling these remains in the black market, others do it with the intention of keeping these things for themselves.

For the Droboso Raiders, one cannot fully sate the motives of the perpetrators, but with investigations set to commence, authorities hope to find out.
