Over 2,000 displaced residents at Twifo Praso in the Central Region have refused to register with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for relief items.
Speaking with TV3’s Alfred Ocansey on New 360 on Monday, Central Region Director of NADMO James Appiah Mensah explained that the displaced residents claimed NADMO had disappointed them in the past.
“There is a place called Twansokoda. When I went there with the Minister, the people told me they won’t register because in the previous administration people registered them and they did not receive any relief item,” he said.
“I wanted to find out why they will not move from the area and they said they have stayed there for a long time so I begged them to register with the new administration.”
As if to confirm the perception of the residents, he revealed that his office has run out of relief items.
“Twifo Praso is a disaster zone and I am in Accra to seek for relief items but we do not have enough relief items and now the situation has risen to over 2000.”
The flood disaster that hit the town over the weekend is said to be as a result of the spillover of River Pra.
