The Member of Parliament for Keta in the Volta Region, Richard Quarshigah, has accused Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia of allowing himself to be consumed by pride.
His comments come after Bawumia called minority members in parliament ignorant and asked them to read when they called for an investigation into the $2.5 billion bond issued by the government over what they said was conflict of interest issues. In a reaction on Accra-based Citi FM, Quashiga said Bawumia’s comments were intemperate and unbecoming of a vice-president.
“People who hold such offices must learn to use temperate language. They must learn to carry themselves with the needed dignity in such offices. What the vice president has done is an indication of growing pride,” he said.
He said the minority members were deeply disturbed by Bawumia’s comments, especially because they felt the issues they had raised were legitimate.
“Indeed we in the minority are very much at pain for the Vice President’s comments which we felt were in bad taste. We strongly are convinced that the matters that we have raised in relation to the domestic bond are very valid and very important.
We must ensure that nothing untoward is done as far as the economic management of this country is concerned.”
Quashiga said the minority members could consider petitioning the speaker over Bawumia’s choice of words, but will prefer that Bawumia himself does some introspection and apologise to them.
