Trump Campaign Has Links To Russian Government

In a latest development ahead of Election Day in US on November 8, the ‘Mother Jones’ magazine has reported that a veteran spy had ‘informed’ FBI about close relations between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and the Russian government.

The report suggested that the spy had provided FBI with memos which indicated that Trump was assisted by Russian establishment for years.

The revelation comes at a time when FBI chief James Comey on Friday announced that the bureau had found new set of emails related to democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The FBI reopened investigation into Hillary’s ‘dubious’ handling of emails while she served as the secretary of state.

The Clinton campaign criticised Comey for revealing facts about an investigation so close to election day and breaking with the justice department tradition. In another report, CNBC said that James Comey had ‘privately’ argued that it was too close to polling day for US to name Russia as interfering with the elections.

“The official said some government insiders are perplexed as to why Comey would have election timing concerns with the Russian disclosure but not with the Huma Abedin email discovery disclosure he made Friday,” said the CNBC report.

After Comey’s announcement on Friday about the newly discovered email trail, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Sunday wrote a letter to him demanding disclosure of information regarding links between Trump, his advisors and the Russian government.

There have been reports in the past of US intelligence officials probing into people related to Trump, his campaign and the Russian officials. During his election campaign, Trump also revealed his soft stance towards Russia and said that he might meet President Vladimir Putin before being sworn-in as president.

The Republican candidate also said in an interview that the current US leadership and Clinton was too aggressive towards Putin. Clinton had taken a jibe at him during the Al Smith dinner commenting that Trump was ‘as healthy as the horse Putin rides on.’
