This comes after George Quaye, Head of Communications for Charterhouse Ghana, lately offered an apology to gospel musicians for his comments that they offer bribes for awards.

George recently alleged on the award-winning show ‘Pundits’ that most offers of bribe that come to him as an Executive of the award scheme are from gospel artists.

But Mrs. Theresa Ayoade, the Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse, today, February 10, at a Press briefing issued a disclaimer on the unfortunate pronouncements of Mr. Quaye, insisting that his(George) comments were not the views of the BOARD.

According to her, Quaye was not authorized by the Board, neither did he act in the capacity as a spokesperson of the Board on the matter.

Mrs. Ayoade noted that the BOARD therefore disassociates itself from the alleged bribery claims.

“The Board can’t verify the statements he made so they are untenable, therefore, as far as the Board is concerned, there’s no BRIBERY issue from the GOSPEL music community or any other person for that matter.

“It was an embarrassing on his part (George Quaye), which is regrettable and he has rendered an apology. And on behalf of Charterhouse the organiser of the event and the Board of the VGMA, we render a SINCERE APOLOGY.”

She also humbly requested for forgiveness from ALL Gospel artistes who have felt slighted by the unguarded claims.

The Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse, explained that from henceforth, Mr. George Quaye will not speak on behalf of the VGMA Board but still remains a staff of Charterhouse Ghana.

“Any enquires regarding VGMA should NOW be directed to Mr. Nii Ayite Hammond (Board Chair) and and Mr. Mark Okraku Mantey (Member), who have been appointed by the Board to speak on behalf of the 2017 Award scheme.”

Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is produced by leading event management firm Charterhouse, in collaboration with leading telecommunications network Vodafone to honour and appreciate Ghanaian musicians and other music industry who have released work(s) that have generated the most public excitement within the calendar year of the scheme.
