In attendance at the meeting was the First Deputy Governor of BoG, Mr. Millison K. Narh and other members of the GTBank delegation; Mr. Daniel Attah, General Manager, Ms. Iris Richter-Addo, Company Secretary and Divisional Head of General Internal Services, Mr. Ben Ackah-Mensah, Group Head, Corporate Affairs and Mrs. Rita Owusu Amponsah, Group Head, Private Banking.

The visit was to officially congratulate the new chief regulator on the occasion of his appointment as Governor of the central bank by President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and to formally introduce GTBank to him. The occasion was also used to discuss general issues pertaining to the development of the financial services industry and other matters.

The Governor used the opportunity to reiterate his pledge of support to further strengthen and develop the banking sector in the country. He recollected the early days of GTBank and how small it was and expressed his satisfaction with the rate of growth and the success of its operations in the country.

The Managing Director of GTBank Ghana, Mr. Sanusi thanked the Governor for the opportunity to meet with him, formally congratulated him and ran him through the development of GTBank – from inception to present day.

He touched on some of the values of the bank such as professionalism and service and how GTBank places a lot of emphasis on them as well as the use of technology to make banking convenient for customers.

Responding to an enquiry by the First Deputy Governor, Mr. Narh, about capacity development by the bank, Mr. Sanusi stated that the bank currently has over seven hundred (700) staff who are all taken through series of capacity development trainings, with only two (2) secondees from Nigeria.

He assured the Governors that although GTBank has done a lot in the area of capacity development since its inception, it would continue to do so in the interest of the development of the industry. He also touched on the bank’s efforts in using technology to reach out to the unbanked population of the economy.

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Bank of the Year for two consecutive years in 2009 and 2010, was registered in Ghana in October 2004 and obtained its universal banking license from the Bank of Ghana on 23rd February.

The Bank is a subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, one of the foremost banks in Nigeria with a Triple A rating; the first indigenously owned sub-Saharan bank to be quoted on the London Stock Exchange. In 2008, GTBank Plc became the first new generation indigenous African bank to obtain a banking license to carry out fully fledged commercial banking activities in the United Kingdom.

Since its inception in Ghana, GTBank has been duly recognized for its strong performance in many areas. Some include being adjudged the “Most Innovative Bank of the Year, West Africa 2016” and “Best Online Platform, Ghana” by Banker Africa Awards and “Technology Advanced Bank of the Year 2016” for the third consecutive time, and “E-Banking Service of the Year 2016” for the second year running by the Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards.

Having earned the tag of the Bank with the most technology advanced platforms in Ghana, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited once again bagged another enviable international recognition after being awarded the “Best Digital Banking – Ghana 2017” award by the Capital Finance International (CFI) Awards, United Kingdom.

Recently, the bank was adjudged “Best Maritime Bank 2017” during the maiden edition of the Ghana Maritime and Shipping Awards held in Accra.
