President John Dramani Mahama has promised that his government will increase the use of local resources in the nation’s oil sector.
Commissioning the new Tweneboah Enyenra Ntomme (TEN) fields in the Western Region, Thursday the president said his government will end the era when the nation depends on foreign materials and personnel in the relevant sectors of the economy.
“I am happy to say that much of the work has been deliberately focused and much of the work was done locally here in Ghana. The nation has come a long way in terms of local resources,” he told chiefs and people of the Western Region.
The commissioning of the TEN fields, which is the nation’s second oil field after the Jubilee fields comes at a time when the international oil market is facing some setbacks.
Experts say the TEN fields marks a new era in Ghana’s oil production.
They believe that apart from shoring up Ghana’s credentials as an oil producing country, the TEN oil fields would also bring about improvements in the livelihood of the people.
Joy News’ Kweku Owusu Peprah reported the people are convinced the project might improve their standards of living.
Even though their situation was not improved after the Jubilee field, they believe the TEN fields would be different.
President Mahama assured the people that his government would ensure an improved situation in the region.
The president said the timing for the project is right, adding, “this is one great leap for our partners.”
