The Chief Executive Officer of UBA Ghana, Mrs. Abiola Bawuah has called for the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill to support women.
Mrs. Bawuah also appealed to the government to appoint 30 percent of women as chief executives in the district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies.
Her call follows some statistics which show that 53% of entry level employees are women, but the figure drops drastically to a mere 19% when it comes to occupying the top most positions in different work institutions.
Speaking to Citi Business News on the matter, Mrs. Bawuah said government should pass the bill as soon as possible.
“Like Mandela said, if we want true freedom women need to be emancipated so I will encourage the government that they should quickly pass the bill. The reason here is that we need more women in leadership,” she said.
She pressed for the need to put women in strategic positions to positively influence national decision.
“We need more women in government , we need more women in corporate world and as you rightly know if you look at the statistics women do better as heads of corporate institutions, government leaders. Women are begging to make shakers and leaders all over the world so in that vein I will encourage the government to pass the bill,” she stressed.
