Wontumi Defends Delta Force Members

Chairman Wontumi said it is important for the public to also listen to the grievances of the vigilante group before condemning their actions.

“These Delta Force members are not bad people, they are very good. I know most of them personally. Why are you people listening to just one side and not their side and ask them why they attacked the court but you just jump into conclusion.

“Any Ghanaian blaming them should stop and listen to their side because as I am speaking with you now, they have reported themselves to the police so why should you say they are bad people?,” he quizzed.

He said this while reacting to the violent attacks the group visited on the KMA court in Kumasi and freed 13 members of their gang who were standing trial for assault on the Ashanti Regional security coordinator.

The angry members of the gang reportedly vandalised properties of the court and almost assaulted the judge in the process.

The 13 were on trial for assaulting the Ashanti regional security coordinator, George Agyei, who they said could not be allowed to serve in that capacity given he was not native to the region and did not help in the campaign towards the NPP’s victory in 2016.

However, Chairman Wontumi said members of the group freed their colleagues because they were afraid for their lives.

But Chairman Wontumi who could not state whether these members are indeed Delta Forces urged Ghanaians to rather question the Ashanti Regional Police over the attack.

Although the Delta Forces have apologized to Ghanaians, especially to the judiciary and the President over Thursday’s events, Antwi Boasiako, is of the firm conviction that the members have committed no crime.
