Why Mohammed VI Is In Ghana On A 3-Day Trip

The King of Morocco’s visit to Ghana is aimed at strenthening his country’s affiliations with Ghana.

King of Morocco, Mohammed VI of Morocco has been in Acccra, Ghana since yesterday being Thursday, 16th February. This was disclosed by a statement from the Flagstaff House. According to the statement, the Moroccan King is on an official three days visit in the country.

The visit, which is aimed at deepening the existing cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco, will also present the two countries with an opportunity to define new areas of cooperation that would serve their mutual interests.

President Nana Akufo-Addo will hold bilateral talks with the King on Friday before hosting him to an official launch at the presidency, said the statement signed by Eugene Arhin, the acting director of communications at the presidency.

The Moroccan King was originally scheduled to visit the country in January, but it was postponed. The King of Morocco’s visit to Ghana comes at the heels of Morocco’s recent acceptance into the African Union.

Morocco, some  few days ago was was accepted into the African Union, a move considered to help the Kingdom to keep up its commitment to Africa and strengthen its involvement in all matters it feels strongly about.

Late last year, Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana affirmed the country’s stance on African membership, saying Morocco never left Africa, even when it was no longer a member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).

King Mohammed VI, is in the country in the company of some members of his government and business leaders. He considers Africa as a priority for which he has paid 39 visits to 21 African countries. He is expected to depart for Morocco on Saturday.

Mohammed VI has been the ruler of the Kingdom of Morocco since 1999.
