President Nana Akufo-Addo has finally opened up on the current state of Ghana economy. The newly inaugurated Ghanaian President has described the country’s economy as that which is currently in shambles.

The preceding NDC administration according to the President, left a crippled economy for the successor NPP government. Nana Addo said this and many more, while speaking to journalists at the Flagstaff House, as he introduced his regional ministers on Tuesday.

According to him, his administration inherited an economy that is in a very poor shape; adding that the economy is even in a much poorer shape than he speculated. The President however said that his administration will strive to bring about a total transformation of the country in spite of the challenge.

Apart from President Nana Addo, several NPP big wigs have given their takes on the state of the nation’s economy. Earlier in January, Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia said that the economy inherited by the NPP from Mahama, is a very difficult one. Bawumia who was speaking at a Durbar of Zongo Chiefs and Imams in Accra, had also said the current administration will strive amid the challenging economy, to fulfil all promises made to Ghanaians.

Prior to the December 2016 elections, the then opposition NPP had centered its campaign message on bringing about change in the dwindling economy. From their own version of the State of the Nation Address, to several addresses on the state of the economy; the NPP on different platforms, expressed their utmost zeal to bring about massive change in the country’s economy.

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, named ten persons to serve as regional ministers, pending parliamentary approval. The list includes Simon Osei-Mensah for the Ashanti Region and Ishmael Ashittey for the Greater Accra Region. Nana Addo’s regional ministerial nomination is in accordance with Article 256(1) (b) of the 1992 Constitution, which empowers the President with the prior approval of parliament, to appoint for each region, a minister who will represent him in the region.

President Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence in all his ministerial nominees. He says he is confident the team he has assembled as state and regional ministers, are going to deliver the best government the country has ever had. The President said his appointees have the needed qualities and the calibre that his administration needs to take the country to greater heights.
