We’ll Unravel ‘Separatist’ Group Financiers – Volta Regional Minister

The Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa has stated that investigations aimed at unraveling the financiers of the ‘separatist’ movement, the Homeland Study Group Foundation are far advanced.

According to him, the likelihood that some persons within and outside Ghana are sponsoring the group’s campaign for the secession of the Volta region and parts of Northern and Upper East regions into an independent State cannot be underemphasized.

Founder of the group, Charles Kormi Kudjordji, 78, with two others, Martin Asiamah Agbenu, 57 and Divine Odonkor, 65 years were brought before the Ho High Court on Thursday for ‘conspiracy to commit treason and treason felony’.

This, was after they were arrested for distributing T-shirts with inscriptions, intending to declare the Volta region and parts of the Northern and Upper East regions of Ghana on May 9, 2017 as an independent, Western Togoland State.

Speaking on the issue in an interview with Ho-based KuulFM, Dr, Letsa said the group could not have carried out their activities without external support, since its core members were largely pensioners.

“Obviously somebody is backing them, because when you see these elderly people, they cannot use their pension funds to be doing this kind of things. Printing T-shirts and billboards and planning to declare independence, they cannot be doing it on their own and I believe that someone must be behind them, whether in this country or outside the country,’ he stated.

Dr. Letsa also opined that, though no political party is supporting the activities of the separatist group in the region, some political activists, he noted, are doing so on their own.

He, however, expressed confidence in the security agencies to get to the bottom of the matter and bring such individuals to book, in order to nip the activities of the group in the bud.
