After the judge, her Highness, Mary Nsenkyire gave an order that the 13 be remanded in prison custody to reappear on April 20, members of the Delta Force group got wind of the news and stormed the court premises, went through the judges chamber forcibly freed their colleagues.

They threatened to attack the judge who had to be given immediate protection by the police officers who brought the 13 suspects. This made it easy for the suspects to escape because they had over-powered the police.

By the time police back-up arrived, all the 13 suspects had escaped. The police managed to arrest eight (8) of the Delta Force members who came to free the earlier 13 suspects.

At an emergency press conference in Accra organised by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) – David Asante Appeatu, both meen indicated that all pressure would be brought to bare on the escapees if the refuse to turn themselves in.

Condemning the incident, Ambrose Dery said “no one is above the law… and I wish to make it clear that we shall do all in our power to make sure that they are arrest and brought to face the due process.

“Let the message go out there to the 13 persons that it is in their interest to resubmit themselves to due process and have their day in court, otherwise the police will pursue them but if need be, we shall involve all other security agencies as maybe necessary to make sure that they are brought to justice.”

A bench warrant has already been issued for the arrest of the men who have escaped.
