Mr. Bani said “the security service particularly the police would continue to be vigilant and ensure that the rogue elements that are hiding behind political parties so not disturb our peace. We will in fact we shall pick up the individuals who commit these acts of violence and disturbances and address them within the confines of the law.”

With about six weeks for Ghana to go to the polls, there have been concerns about possible violence as the political temperature heats up mainly amongst the two major political parties – the National Democratic Congree (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing journalists in Accra, Minister for the Interior, Prosper Douglas Bani says based on six successful elections held in the country, the interior ministry is confident the security agencies will ensure maximum security before, during and after this year’s elections.

“There may be areas where peace processes and conflict resolution processes are ongoing but there are no armed violence conflicts in this country as we speak. It gives credence to the work that the intelligence services and the security services are doing for us all.”

The sector minister stressed that vigilante groups have been outlawed and have no space in the political dispensation.  He assured that a security taskforce will be deployed to develop strategies in dealing with persons who engage in such acts.

On hotspots identified by the police service, the minister said adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure peace prevails in all those areas.
