We Will Remain Impartial In Our Duties — IGP Assures Ghanaians

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, has assured the public of the commitment of the Police Service to remain impartial in the discharge of its duties towards the successful conduct of the December 7 general election.

He, therefore, appealed to the people to cooperate with the police by abiding by electoral laws and regulations to ensure peace and harmony in the electioneering process.

Mr Kudalor gave the assurance when he inaugurated a residential facility for the Ghana Police Service at Oforikrom in Kumasi.

Project

The facility was constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at a cost of GH¢500,000. It comprises four apartments and a conference hall.

The project was the initiative of the Ashanti Regional Commander of Police, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye.

Mr Kudalor commended Mr Boakye for his hard work over the years and called on his colleagues to emulate his (Mr Boakye’s) exemplary leadership.

The IGP also expressed appreciation to the Manhyia Palace, the Asanteman Council and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for their support in protecting police lands in the area.

According to him, all police lands at Asokwa, Suame and the Patase Police Depot where similar projects were being undertaken, would be walled to protect them from encroachment.

As part of the collaboration with their private partners, stores would be put up on portions of the land for rental.

Mr Kudalor said it had become a policy of the government to encourage PPP in the provision of critical infrastructure for the security services in the country.

The IGP further eulogised the Regional Command for their fight against violent crime in the midst of logistical constraints in the area.

Warning

For his part, Mr Boakye warned all “machomen” in the region against any attempt at protecting ballot boxes during the election, since that was not their responsibility.

He lauded the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his support to the police which, he noted, had contributed to the prevailing peace in the region.

The Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, described the job of the police as very crucial in the attainment of peace and development in society and pledged the continuous support of Asanteman and the Manhyia Palace to the service.

He appealed to the people to support the police by providing them with the needed information in their fight against crime.
