We Will Give NPP Time To Address Our Challenges – GNCCI

Business Associations have stated that the business industry will not pressurize the incoming government into fulfilling promises made to them at least for the first six months in office.

According to them, the new government must be allowed to work over a period of time to fulfill its promises made to industry.

“I think we understand the situation… we don’t expect magic within the first six months. It may have to take some time. Some of them may be for the short term, others medium, others for the long term. So we understand the situation,” Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Mark Badu Aboagye stated.

President elect Nana Akuffo Addo during his campaign promised to fix challenges industry players face.

These challenges include; high taxes, rising interest on loans, power sector challenges among others.

Speaking on Business Today, Mr. Badu Aboagye emphasized that his outfit will not coerce the new government but will ensure that they work within the time frame promised.

“Our expectation is to ensure that whatever they said they are going to do to help businesses is done within the time frame of which they have stated. So we are going to give them the ample time, give them the necessary support. For the next six months, we are not going to organize any demonstration but the NPP government should make sure that whatever they’ve promised will be done.”

Touching on the one district one factory promise made by the President elect, Nana Akufo Addo, the CEO of the GNCCI lauded the vision.

He however urged the government to collaborate with the private sector in execution the mandate.

“It is highly possible and for me it is not going to be something that Nana or the NPP government will have to cough up money to do. It’s going to be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project. So the government would need to collaborate with the private sector and businesses that are coming in. They just have to identify the areas that they can put their money. So it’s highly possible and I will urge Nana to collaborate with the private sector.” he stated.
