Nene Kitcher Labaia IV, Chief of Akplabanya in the Sege Constituency, has fully endorsed the candidature of the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in this year’s presidential election.

According to the Chief, “the Chiefs and people of Sege are united with one common purpose – which is to see you (Nana Akufo-Addo) win this year’s election. We support you fully and we want you to win this year’s election.”

Nene Kitcher Labaia IV made this known on Thursday, September 22, 2016, when Nana Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him, whilst touring the Sege constituency on day-3 of his 4-day tour of the Greater Accra Region.

The Chief noted that, together with his sub-Chiefs and people, they have supported the NDC since 1992, and have not seen any commensurate infrastructural and human development over the years.

He noted that a few years ago, when their lands were eroded by the sea, they made a passionate appeal to the Mahama government help, and also for the construction of a sea defense wall.

“Government promised to help us, but till date nothing has happened. We are still at the mercy of the sea, which is destroying our lands and eating away our livelihoods. Nana, we know you have won already won this election. So when you come into office, we want you to help us protect our lands from the effects of the sea,” he said.

Nene Kitcher Labaia IV lamented that “our roads from Lolonya to Toflokpo are in a deplorable state. Anytime it rains, it becomes unmotorable. Our women are unable to go to the market as a result. For years we have supported the NDC, and, yet, our roads are bad. This is unacceptable.”

Touching on the high levels of youth unemployment in the area, the Chief stated that “this town has a lot of graduates. However, there are no jobs for them. The little jobs that can be found here have all been taken over by outsiders. This cannot continue any longer.”

He added, “Our women and mothers leave us at odd hours of the night, and in the early hours of the morning to go out in search of water. We cannot continue like this. We support Nana Akufo-Addo, and we will push him into power so he can help us and change our circumstances. We are united as Chiefs, and together with our people, we will vote for change.”

Sege want change

In his response, Nana Akufo-Addo thanked Nene Kitcher Labaia IV for his endorsement and the warm reception afforded him and his team. The NPP flagbearer noted that in all the 9 regions he has visited during the 1st phase of his campaign tour, “it is clear that Ghanaians want change. They want a new government to come into office and help change their circumstances.”

He continued, “over the years, when the votes from Sege are announced, the NPP does not win in this constituency. But, this year, I am convinced that Sege will vote for the NPP, and I assure you that when this happens there will be a change in your circumstances.”

Nana Akufo-Addo assured Nene Kitcher Labaia IV that “when God gives me the opportunity to serve this country, I am coming to do a job for Ghana. We are not a poor country. God has blessed us with all we need to be a successful nation. We, in the NPP, are not coming into office to steal the resources of our country. We want to return this country onto the path of progress and prosperity, and, thereby, create wealth and prosperity for our citizens.”

In concluding, Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment towards bringing into fruition his ‘1-District-1-Factory policy, the effective implementation of the Free SHS policy, and the revival of the collapsed National Health Insurance Scheme.

He, thus, urged the people of Sege to vote for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate Divine Otoo Agorhum. The NPP flagbearer on the day also campaigned in the Ada and Ningo/Prampram constituencies, paying courtesy calls on the Chiefs of the respective traditional councils, and addressing residents in the two constituencies.

Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied on his tour by Ishmael Ashitey, the Greater Accra NPP Regional Chairman, and his regional executives; Prof. Mike Oquaye, former 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament and former MP for Dome/Kwabenya; Sheikh I. C. Quaye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister and former MP for Ayawaso Central; Otiko Afisa Djaba, NPP National Women’s Organiser; Hon. Irene Naa Torshie Addo, Deputy Chief Whip in Parliament and MP for Tema West; Nii Adu Mante, former MP for Klottey Korle; Isaac George Amoh, former MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, amongst others.
