Traders at spare parts enclave, Kokompe, in Accra, have strongly rejected claims that they hooted at President John Dramani Mahama recently when he toured the area as part of his Greater Accra Regional tour.

Hundreds of traders and residents stunned President John Dramani Mahama at Kokompe by waving the change sign at him. The large crowd will not stop hooting at the President and screaming “change, change, change.”

President Mahama looking puzzled and left with no option waved at the teeming crowd from his Toyota Land cruiser vehicle in response to the traders continuous making of the change sign.

The action of the people was roundly condemned by NDC party officials such as the 2016 campaign coordinator, Kofi Adams, who described the persons who shouted in disapproval of the President of being known undisciplined NPP supporters at Kokompe, which makes their conduct not surprising.

But the traders who fear the action against the President may have repercussion on their businesses in terms of sales have dismissed any such tagging as supporters of the NPP, saying they had no hand in the action which was as an embarrassment to the President.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the traders said they are not asking for forgiveness over the incident but just want to establish their innocence.

“No one hooted at the President at Kokompe, we all wanted to see the President and so were standing by the road side waiting for him, he didn’t come to Kokompe, he was just passing trough the area and people followed him from other places like Aticco and were doing the change sign, they were obviously not people who work here. We are totally innocent about that incident. We are not apologizing but we want to make our position clear on the matter.”
