Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey’s demise in March 2016 last year came as a shock to the family and the party. An NPP stalwart who played various roles in the party, Jake’s contributions as National Campaign manager for the party earned the party victory in 2000.

Speaking on the sidelines of a memorial service organized by the NPP to commemorate the one year anniversary of his passing, Charis Obetsebi-Lamptey, first daughter of the late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey said “the family still misses him terribly” although the pain of the grief has lessened over the period.

According to her, they are saddened by the fact that their father did not have the chance to witness the victory he had envisioned together with his childhood friend, President Akufo-Addo.

“the immediate pain of his passing has lessened but we still miss him terribly,…and we are sad that he is no longer here and that he is not here now when the NPP are back, he would have been delighted, finally, with his childhood friend at the helm of affairs, his childhood dream would have been realized….although it’s been a year, it feels like yesterday that he left, we’ve just been trying to get through the pain of his loss”.

Despite the pain she said, they are gratified and take solace in the fact that his party colleagues supported them through and have organized today’s memorial ceremony to honor him.

“we are gratified by the number of people who have come out to commemorate this day and to support us, that has been humbling and we are immensely grateful”, she said

The NPP held a memorial service to mark his anniversary on Monday March 20, 2017, exactly a year after his demise.

Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey passed away on March 20, 2016 in London after battling an ailment. He was until his demise the National Chairman of the National Patriotic Party.

From 2005 to July 2007, Obetsebi-Lamptey served as Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations in the cabinet of President John Kufuor. Previously Obetsebi-Lamptey was Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital (2002–2005) and Minister of Information (2001–2002).

Jake also served as a Chief of Staff in the government of former President John Kufuor.
