The machete-wielding assailants also destroyed reportedly destroyed computers, television sets, tables and chairs at the opposition party officer.

Adom News’ Koofori Bossu Denkye, reports that the incident follows claims by members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that NPP was busing foreigners to transfer their votes ahead of the December 7 general elections.

NPP members suspect the attack was masterminded by the NDC.

NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the area, George Yaw Boakye, believes the attackers are from the camp of the NDC.

“There was a queue of about 40 applicants and the NDC came with a pickup load of people to do the transfer but when they came they thought the queue of 40 people were members of NPP and therefore if they [EC] should allow the 40 people to go through the process, it would be difficult for the people they [NDC] brought to go through the process.

“So in order to prevent the first 40 people from going through the process, they decided to do what they did,” Mr. Boakye narrated.

He said although the Police have been informed, the attackers are yet to be arrested.

The incident has been confirmed by the EC but says its officers were among victims of the attack.

On September 9, 2016 the Electoral Commission began receiving applications for registered voters who wish to transfer their votes from one constituency to another where they wish to vote in December.

Those wishing a transfer are required to visit the District Office of the Electoral Commission in the Constituency where they are now resident to complete the vote transfer application form to be processed.

Applicants must be resident in the Constituency they wish to transfer to for at least 12 months and must provide proof of residence.

The process ends on Friday, 7th October 2016.
