Vigilante Groups Threat To Ghana

The activities of vigilante groups in Ghana pose a threat to Ghana’s security, therefore, they must be dealt with immediately, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former National Security Coordinator has said.

According to him, some miscreants could involve themselves in these groups to foment all manner of trouble in the country.

His comment comes in the wake of the arrest of one Kwadwo Bamba, 37, an auto mechanic, who led some well-built men of the Delta Force – the New Patriotic Party’s security arm in the region – to remove Mr Agyei from his office on Friday, 24 March on the grounds that he was not native to the region and played no part in the 2016 campaign, hence merits no appointment in the Akufo-Addo administration.

Bamba was arrested on Saturday but was granted bail by the Police on Monday.

Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Monday, 27 March, Brigadier Nunoo-Mensah said: “The IGP should deal with this matter. If he doesn’t deal with the matter, then the president who has been elected by us to make sure Ghana is safe must deal with the matter.”

“They are gaining momentum and they are gaining strength. The government must take a strong stand against them and other such groups, otherwise some of them who are not happy for various reasons can plunge the country into chaos, so let the police deal with the matter. This is a criminal offence.”

Meanwhile, Bamba has apologised to the president on behalf of Delta Force for their action.

Speaking with show host Chief Jerry Forson after being released on bail, Bamba said: “Let me use your platform to apologise to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Vice President. Let me also apologise to the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP, Chairman Wontumi, Dr Amoako Tuffuor, Sammi Awuku, and all Ghanaians for what has happened.

“We (Delta Force) were totally wrong, we are sorry for what happened.”
