The health walk started around 7 am, minutes after the arrival of the Vice President, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah and Attorney General Minister Gloria Akuffo.

An aerobics session kick-started the exercise that lasted for about five minutes. Clad in Ghana @60 shirts, colors of the country as well as paraphernalia of the ruling government, the enthusiastic crowd paraded through the streets with Circle (Obra Spot) as the start-off point through the trading hub of Tudu and finally climaxing it with a second aerobics session at the Accra Accra Sports Stadium.

The size of the crowd grew in leaps and bounds with key personalities like the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi and business mogul Kennedy Somuah Agyepong joining in at some point.

The jubilant crowd sang patriotic songs that resonated exceedingly well with the motive of the walk and brought alive the sense of patriotism among Ghanaians that has been on the wane for some time now. In a jubilant but orderly manner the crowd cheered on the Vice President and the other personalities who showed no sign of fatigue in the duration of the walk

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Armed Forces were present to maintain law and order and also prevent any act of violence that could have showed its head.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the Accra Sports Stadium, H. E. Mahamadu Bawumia echoed the need for Ghanaians to remain patriotic and loyal to the country. He also admonished Ghanaians to exercise frequently and keep fit since a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.

The health walks is part of series of activities lined up to celebrate sixty years of Ghana’s liberation from colonial rule. The walk was aimed at sensitizing Ghanaians on the need to keep fit and also arouse a sense of patriotism as we gear up for the major event on the 6th of March.
