The two groups, in a statement signed by the President of UGAG, argued that, they are in the best position to carry out such tasks given that their members graduated from varying tertiary institutions.

In a statement, they said, “Our call is legitimate considering the fact that, our members are professionals who have graduated from the university or polytechnic and Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Director of Elections, National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) decision to petition the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) against the Electoral Commission employing the services of members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana (ICAG) to collate the results at the constituency collation centres.”

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo has said his decision to petition IPAC on this particular EC reform is because there are more experienced electoral officers than these professionals.

The members of UGAG and UTAG also said they view this “as an opportunity to serve our dear country at this crucial moment while we wait patiently for a job.” “It will also be an opportunity for us to earn something to cater for ourselves and also start a small businesses if possible,” the groups added.

GIVE US ELECTION DAY JOB

The Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG) and the Unemployed Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) wishes to call on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to use our members and other unemployed graduates for the collation of results at the Constituency Collation Centres on December 7, 2016 to ensure a fair and transparent election.

Our call is legitimate considering the fact that our members are professionals who have graduated from the university or polytechnic and Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Director of Elections, National Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to petition the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) against the Electoral Commission employing the services of members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana (ICAG) to collate the results at the constituency collation centres.

We see this as an opportunity to serve our dear country at this crucial moment while we wait patiently for a job. It will also be an opportunity for us to earn something to cater for ourselves and also start a small business if possible. In the meantime, we would keep our hopes alive whilst we wait patiently for the Electoral Commission for the call to national duty.
