Two years after the building that houses the male inmates of New Life Nungua Children’s Home got burnt, efforts by the authorities to put up a new building for them has delayed due to lack of funds.

As a result, the male inmates are using only two single room apartment which was rented by the authorities nearby leading to overcrowding.

The Founder who is also the Chief of Otinor under the Nungua Traditional Area in Accra, Nii Afotey Botchwey, who made the revelations said about 20 male inmates out of the 72 inmates are sharing the two single rooms but they are now constructing three-storey building of 60-rooms to accommodate all the inmates but this has delayed due to lack of funds.

Nii Afotey Botchwey II made these known to Onua News when the Accra Ultimate Lions Club fed the children during the New Year day.

The children were given food and drinks by the Lions Club.

“In 2015 our home got burnt and we are putting up a new building for them but it has been very slow because of financial difficulty and the children don’t have a place to sleep”, Nii Botchwey II added.

“We have rented a place for them but the place is overcrowded but we hope to complete by March this year so that we can move the children there”.

The Chief added that the Home has a school but another challenge has been how to pay the workers because most of the students are from the orphanage who do not pay school fees.

The First Vice President of the Accra Ultimate Lions Club, Victor Mensah Torkornoo, promised that the Club will support the orphanage to get a befitting place for the children.

“You have seen they are putting up three-storey building. We are trying to solicit funds for them to put up the building so that the kids can move there as their homes”, Mr. Torkornoo assured.
